There are six (6) types of tax administered by the Barbados Revenue Authority. Explore these tax types below for more information.
Individuals
Barbados Income Tax Income Tax is levied on the income of persons resident or non-resident in Barbados. There is no tax on capital. The system of taxation is based on self-assessment.
Corporations

Electronic Tax Administration
The Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) is offering a number of services by internet that will be fast, convenient, uncomplicated, free, safe and secure.
Tax payers must produce the Map Reference number and state the amount they intend to pay. 60 day discount period. Payment due 30 days from the day the bill is received in order to receive the 10% discount. The next 30 days will receive 5% discount.
All cheques must be accompanied by the bill or EXACT reference number
Renewing Licence
The licence (card) must be presented in order to renew a driver’s license. Payment due on the birthdate of the license holder but can be paid at any time during that month.
New Registration System
The following documents must be presented to Barbados Revenue Authority personnel when registering a vehicle (new or used):
- Weight certificate
- Letter of sale
- Insurance
- Completed registration form (forms available from the payment section at all BRA locations)

Processing of Visitor Permits
A visitor who wishes to drive on the roads of Barbados is required to apply for a Visitor’s Registration Certificate commonly known as a Visitor’s Permit.
Applications can be made for a visitor’s permit for a period of stay:
- Under 2 months, the fee is $10.00
- Over 2 months, the fee of $100.00.
The application can be made by email to permits@bra.gov.bb or facilitated at any car rental company. A dedicated telephone line (246) 243 1698 is place to address visitor’s queries and to provide guidance in this regard.
Process
The visitor is required to email a scanned copy of the following documents and information with respect to the application for a period of stay under 2 months:
- Valid international driver’s licence
- Completed application form including the following:
- Name
- Date of entry
- Country of residence
- Address in Barbados
The visitor is required to email a scanned copy of the following documents and information with respect to the application for a period of stay exceeding 2 months:
- Valid international driver’s licence
- Passport showing working/living status
- Completed application form including the following:
- Name
- Date of entry
- Country of residence
- Address in Barbados
- The application is reviewed and approved a unique identifier number is issued.
- This number is to be used to facilitate payment at SurePay online or at any SurePay location.
- The visitor is given a receipt from the SurePay cashier.
- Payment confirmation report from SurePay are generated and sent to the Authority hourly.
- The visitors permit will be issued by the next business day via email.
The National Social Responsibility Levy is a tax imposed on good imported into Barbados and on domestically manufactured goods.
Tax payers must provide the TIN and the tax return which would state the period and amount.
