BRA Shares Small Island Perspective at Global Competent Authorities Meeting
BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS – Two and a half years after welcoming competent authorities from around the world to Bridgetown, the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) is contributing to the discussion at the 13th Global Forum Competent Authorities Meeting in Kotor, Montenegro. The meeting runs from October 27 to 29, 2026, and brings together close to 200 participants representing 84 jurisdictions.
On October 27, Revenue Commissioner Jason King spoke on the panel Raising the Profile of Competent Authorities, one of several panel discussions and sessions on the meeting’s programme this week. King’s participation reflects Barbados’ growing role in the global conversation on tax transparency.
The panel discussed the strategic role of competent authorities in the international exchange of information for tax purposes. The Barbados tax administration head spoke from the perspective of a small island state. King drew on Barbados’ experience as an active member of the Global Forum community and outlined the importance of exchange of information in helping to protect Barbados’ tax base and reputation.
The Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes is the leading multilateral body responsible for ensuring that jurisdictions implement the international standards on exchange of information on request and automatic exchange of information. Its annual Competent Authorities meeting gives the officials responsible for exchanging information a chance to share experience and good practice.
