BRA Takes its Tax Expertise to COTA 2026
Barbados Highlights its Experience in Cybersecurity, Data Governance and Risk-Based Compliance
The Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) proudly represented Barbados at the 27th General Assembly & Technical Conference of the Caribbean Organization of Tax Administrators (COTA), held July 26–31, 2026, in Guyana.
The Authority was represented by Anthony Gittens, Director, Tax Operations, and Demitri Smith of the Enterprise Risk Unit, who shared the BRA’s expertise and insights on some of the key issues shaping the future of tax administration.
Held under the theme “Future Ready CARICOM Tax Administration – Smart, Data Driven and AI Enabled for Sustainable Revenue,” the conference provided a valuable forum for tax administrators from across the region to exchange knowledge, experiences and perspectives on strengthening tax administration.
Sharing BRA’s Expertise
Smith presented on using risk-based approaches to strengthen compliance, highlighting the importance of leveraging data and risk-based methodologies to support more effective compliance. His in-depth presentation received positive feedback from participants and catalysed healthy discussions among representatives.
Anthony Gittens presented on cybersecurity and data governance, highlighting their importance in safeguarding information and supporting effective tax administration. He also moderated a technical session and represented the Barbados perspective on panels addressing Caribbean Tax Priorities and Taxation in the Tourism Sector.
A Proud Regional Contribution - Barbados Joins Council
Barbados also secured a place on the COTA Executive Council, joining Guyana, Grenada, Turks & Caicos Islands, Anguilla and Jamaica.
The conference provided an important platform for the Authority and Barbados to contributing to important regional discussions on the future of tax administration.
