Tourism Room Levy and Product Levy in Effect from July 1, 2018

The Barbados Revenue Authority wishes to advise that a Room Rate Levy for tourist accommodation as well as a Product Development Levy on all Direct Tourism Services, have both been applied effective July 1, 2018. 

These levy additions follow the Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposal of June 11, 2018 presented by the Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs and Investment. Filing and payments begin in August 2018.

Any person who provides tourist accommodation is required to charge the Room Rate Levy to all visitors or citizens of Barbados. The Room Rate Levy will be imposed on the following tourist accommodation commencing July 1, 2018:

  • Apartments
  • Guest houses
  • Hotels
  • Vacation Rental Properties
  • Villas

The applicable rates shall be calculated as follows:

Room Rate Levy

 Effective July 1, 2018 a Room Levy will be applied to the above listed properties at the following rates:

  • “B” Class BDS $5.00 per room per night;
  • “A” Class BDS $11.00 per room per night and
  • Luxury BDS $20.00 per room per night
  • Vacation rental properties shall be 2.5% of the rate charged per bedroom per night however, where that amount exceeds BDS $20.00 per night, the rate to be charged shall be BDS $20.00 per bedroom per night.
  • Villas shall be 2.5% of the nightly rate. However, where that amount exceeds BDS $20.00 per night, the rate to be charged shall be BDS $20.00 per bedroom per night.

 Product Development Levy

 Effective July 1, 2018 a Product Developement Levy of 2.5% will be applied on the cost of all Direct Tourism Services.
